Mirah

My first name is Mirah (pronounced MEE-rah). My parents were reading George Eliot's book Daniel Deronda before I was born, and they found the name there. It's an extremely uncommon name, so much so that I've only met two others in my life. My name is constantly mispronounced and misspelled, which has the amusing side effect of making me exclaim with delight whenever someone actually gets it right on the first try. Eventually I learned that my name is probably an anglicized version of the Hebrew name Meira, which means light-bringer.
